In the last decade 2010 to 2020, I...
- experienced the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver
- got shingles preparing my MA thesis defense
- graduated from UBC with a Masters in Special Education
- passed the Board Certified Behavior Analyst board exam
- went on my last pre-kid trip with Simon to the Mayan Riveria
- experienced a 31 hour labour on nitrous oxide, morphine and the epidural
- experienced a super speedy natural birth that almost happened in the car
- learned how to survive on 2-hour intervals of sleep for several years
- experienced the joy of breast-feeding along with cracked nipples, mastitis, and realizing I could literally shoot milk across the room
- rushed my 5-month old to the hospital having him stay there for 4 days recovering from pneumonia, RSV and dehydration
- had more than one emotional breakdown trying to 'do-it-all' balancing work and motherhood and experienced the grace, forgiveness and support from a loving husband
- cheered for my husband as he participated in several GranFondo cycling races and also prayed as my husband recovered from Rhabdomyolysis
- held my breath as my husband quit his job at Link Design and started a new position at Keith Panel Systems (now celebrating that he is so much happier at KPS)
- Simon completed some of the hardest architectural projects of his career (the Kitsilano Coast Guard renovation, Fly Over Canada)
- fell in love with long distance running and ran a personal record of 1:49:18 at the 2014 Scotia Half-Marathon
- had my son projectile vomit on me (and several passengers) during a 7 hour flight from Mexico
- left Willingdon church and started going to Christ City South Vancouver
- quit my job as a senior behaviour consultant at Family Centred Practices Group
- cheered as both my kids graduated from preschool
- cried when both kids started kindergarten
- started a new job as a Special Education Coordinator at Vancouver Christian School
- hiked many mountains with the kids (Sea to Sky, Grouse Grind, BCMC trail) and survived our first overnight hike with both kids to Garabaldi Lake
- Simon went on his first rollercoaster Legoland, San Diego and splurged and stayed in the pirate room at the Legoland Hotel
- both Simon and I are working full time AKA school days feel like running on a treadmill while juggling eggs and the eggs are on fire
- get the privilege and joy of working at the same school that my kids go to
- Nallie is in Grade 3 and Noah is in Grade 1, my office is in the same hallway as their classroom and I love that Noah still gives me the best hugs and exclaims "Mommy!" when he sees me in the hallway (Nallie smiles at me but doesn't hug me in the hallway anymore)
- learned how to order groceries online
- training for my first full marathon alongside my supportive husband
- part of an awesome community group at Christ City
- Noah has almost outgrown being theatrically dramatic over small problems and continues to be the funniest person in our family, he loves soccer, dinosaurs, ninjas, sharks (particularly megadon) and Lego with a passion
- Nallie loves her friends, is learning to raise her hand at school, no longer melts down when asked to play the piano and is enjoying dance
- both kids are signed up for the first ever triathalon and a 15 km bike race
Future 2030
Simon and I would have just celebrated 25 years together
Kids won't be kids anymore, they will be 16 and 18 years old (ahhh...panicking as I write this)
- praying that Nallie and Noah will be kind, generous and tenacious human beings that love God and love others
- praying that I will still be working at the same school as them and they don't purposely hide when they see me at school
- praying that we will still have Friday FamJam nights and watch movies or play boardgames together
- praying that Simon and I continue to be each other's biggest fans
- praying that our health remains and we continue enjoying the great outdoors together
Christmas Card December 2019..wonder what 2030 will look like
Love it!
